Two students from the Michuki Technical Training Institute drowned after an excursion to a local waterfall went awry on Sunday afternoon.
According to residents of Iyego, where the incident happened, the two students were part of a group of friends who had hiked to the Karuuga waterfallsfor a day or merrymaking.
The female student is said to have slipped and fallen into the swollen Mathioya River, which was overflowing its banks due recent heavy rains.
Another male student jumped into the river in a bid to save the girl, but was also swept away by the water.
The fate of the two people who went missing in this area is not known as their rescue efforts were not fruitful, but it’s expected that they will resume on Monday.
