A primary school teacher has been charged with cyberbullying the Teachers Service Commission’s chief executive officer Nancy Macharia.
Jeremiah Mwawuganga pleaded not guilty to a charge of sending false information about the death of TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia, posting the information on the TSC Facebook page on January 16, 2022.
The prosecution told the court that he had shared the post knowing it was false and that he’d intended to cause fear and panic in Ms Macharia and her family.
The defendant was also charged with a second count of publishing false information contrary to the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act, where he knowingly published false information through his Facebook account on the Tsc page.
Through his lawyer Ruth Tanui, the teacher asked for lenient bail terms saying he was the sole bread winner of his family and has been cooperating with investigators.
He was released on a bond of Sh650,000, or bail of Sh100,000.
The matter will be mentioned on February 9,2022 for pre-trial.
