Security has been heightened at Machakos Academy, the tallying centre for Machakos County ahead of the announcement of results.
Tens of contingent police officers were on Friday deployed at the venue to ensure the safety of those accessing it ahead of the announcement of the governor, senator and woman representative results.
Those allowed to access the tallying centre included candidates, accredited poll observers, agents, journalists, candidates’ security details, IEBC officials, among others.
Poll observers whose names were not on a list produced by the electoral authority were denied access.
All those allowed to access the tallying centre were frisked and civilians with firearms were forced to hand them to the officers for safety.
Machakos County police commander Issa Mohammud said a temporary armory had been availed to keep the rifles.
Wiper Machakos governor candidate Wavinya Ndeti and Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council CEO Daniel Yumbya are among the leaders who have arrived at the county tallying centre.
Machakos County IEBC returning officer Nelly Illongo said they had received senate, woman representative and governor results from seven constituencies. They include; Machakos town, Kathiani, Mwala, Masinga, Yatta, Matungulu, and Kangundo.
The commission, she said, was yet to receive results from the Mavoko constituency.
