Teachers have been ordered to return to schools as early as nest week on Monday for the phased reopening of leaning institutions across the country.
The resolution was made by a committee of stakeholders from the education sector that has been holed up in a meeting to craft measures for the reopening of schools. Addressing the media at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in Nairobi on Monday, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Dr Nancy Macharia said the committee resolved to have teachers back in schools to speed up the reopening of schools.
At the same time, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha said the reopening of schools will be announced only after stakeholders agree on an appropriate date.
Prof Magoha also said that 15 schools in every sub-county will benefit from the Sh1.9 billion desks and chairs which will be made by the jua kali sector.
Prof Magoha also announced that final year science students have been allowed back to universities to do their practicals in order to be ready for graduation at the end of the year. The CS said that the students must observe Covid-19 rules.
