A section of residents living along the border of Machakos and Kajiado Counties have held a demonstration over poor roads in the area.
The locals drawn from Athi River in Machakos County, Kajiado North and Kajiado East in Kajiado County; have called for the construction of roads, even as they decried the far-reaching effects on health.
“The roads here are very dusty and this has affected our livelihood. Children cannot go to school,” a resident SAID.
Residents, both young and old, have flocked hospitals in the area due to respiratory infections. The situation worsens during the rainy season, as the roads are rendered impassable.
At the same time, livestock have been affected, with the dust emanating from the road affecting the grazing fields.
“There are several industries around here that ferry their raw materials through the feeder roads. This has compounded the situation,” another resident added.
The locals called for immediate action adding that their farms have been affected as the vehicles pass through as they collect their raw material in the area.
“We are calling for immediate action to help bring this to an end. We have suffered for long. We want action,” they said.
