The National Police Service (NPS) has announced that traffic along some of Nairobi’s roads will be disrupted on Friday, due to the State funeral of retired President Mwai Kibaki.
In a statement on Thursday, Police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso said the disruption will allow the procession of retired President Kibaki’s body to Nyayo Stadium.
The Kenya Defence Forces will have a procession to the Nyayo Stadium via Kenyatta Avenue, Uhuru Highway and Aerodrome Road.
“Motorists are advised to avoid Aerodrome Road and a section of Uhuru Highway between Nyayo House and Lusaka roundabouts as from 7:00am,” Shioso said.
He advised vehicles driving to the city from Waiyaki Way towards Mombasa Road to divert at Nyayo House Roundabout and join Kenyatta Highway towards Moi Avenue.
“Head to Haile-Sellasie Roundabout then towards City Stadium onward to Mombasa Road,” he added.
Motorists from Mombasa road heading towards the CBD and Westlands have been advised to use the Southern Bypass or Likoni, Enterprise and Lusaka roads to avoid inconveniences on Uhuru Highway.
He further said that only vehicles with parking access stickers will be allowed to park within the Nyayo Stadium premises.
