The men’s and women’s champions of the 40th edition of Rotterdam Marathon were crowned on Sunday. Defending champion Marius Kipserem looked to retain his title after he broke away in 25 km, dropping compatriots Emmanuel Saina (208) and Bashir Abdi(204). However it was Kenya’s Bashir who took home first place with a Kenyan time 2:06:31 while Belgium set new course record for both male & female athlete finishing at 1 hour 20 minutes 13 seconds respectively!
Barsosio, who took the lead from 5km mark helped by pacemakers won silver in women’s race after timing 2:22:08 ahead of Nataliya Lehonkova (2:30). Another Kenyan born on fourth place Barnaba Korir was also present to receive her for performance.
At finish line Amina Mohammed,Jack Tuwei and Sports Cabinet Secretary were there with Athletics Kenya President Jack thanking them all very much about this successful Race.”
The winners of this year’s Venice Marathon were all Kenyans, with Anderson Seroi Saitoti taking home the men’s title in a time of 2:12:22 and Justus Kangogo coming second at 3 minutes behind him. Gilbert Chumba closed out third place for Kenya by timing 13 seconds slower than second placed Italian Sofia Yaremchuk who had won her category with an impressive speed just two hours after completing 27KMs! Alongside these winning performances came some other stellar finishes from runners like Megertu Ifa Geletu finishing fourth overall across both male and female categories while Marion Kibor managed fifth spot as well among females despite runningomboth distances less.
