Kameme FM radio presenter, Muthee Kiengei, came to the rescue of a poverty-stricken family living in Ngamwa kìnurì village, Nyeri County.
In a live video on Wednesday, May 11, Kiengei highlighted the plight of a form three student at St Augustine Gikondi Boys High School, who stayed at home due to fee arrears amounting to Ksh44,359.
Through an online fundraising drive, the presenter rallied Kenyans of goodwill who managed to raise Ksh170,350 in just minutes to cater to Kang’ethe’s plight.
The amount will now cover Kang’ethe’s full secondary education including the fee arrears.
“We have managed to keep Her son Kang’ethe in school St Augustine Gikondi Boys High school until the completion of His education, He was sent home today with a fee balance amounting to Ksh44,359. To the online family, may you never lack. (At the moment) you may not know what you have done to the needy family, we have now cleared the balance and paid until Form Four,” Kiengei stated.
The presenter further confirmed that the principal of the school had agreed to take back the student to allow him to continue with his education.
The whole initiative brought Kang’ethe’s mother to tears after she was moved by Kenyans online for the kind gesture.
She explained that the full school fees amounted to Ksh35,000 excluding the arrears. The presenter urged the family to use the rest of the amount to boost the woman’s grocery business.
Kiengei had initially visited the family in order to gift them a fully furnished 3-bedroomed house to replace the mud structure that they lived in. The initiative had been a result of Kenyans contributing to the project.
Kang’ethe’s mother had lamented about their deplorable state, highlighting the leaking roofs during the rainy season as well as how the family used plank woods as beds.
