Police officers in Njiru have detained Kevin Ochieng Onyango, a cyber cafe operator who was discovered forging police clearance certificates at the Obama estate in Njiru Sub-county.
The forgery suspect was arraigned before the Madaraka court to answers to charges of forging a police clearance certificate for John Waithaka with intent to deceive him on January 14, 2023.
The cyber operator reportedly told Waithaka that he could help him get the certificate for a reasonable price when he went to ask for advice on how to get it.
Onyango’s deception was exposed when his prospective client visited the Obama police station soon after making a deposit for the certificate.
He reportedly asked the police officers if a certificate of good conduct could be obtained without having his fingerprints taken.
After officers at the station told him it was impossible, he let the cat out of the bag, narrating the deal he had struck earlier with the cyber café operator.
Police officer investigating the matter then raided the cyber café, where they found the suspect having already made two copies of the certificate.
He was then arrested, and the computer he was using to make the documents confiscated.
The suspect denied the charges before senior magistrate Mercy Maligu and was freed on a Ksh.50,000 cashbail.
