A 30-year-old sand harvester died while on duty at Karamogi ‘A’ village in Siaya County on Tuesday evening.
When Chrispine Oduor went on his usual sand harvesting adventure, he never expected to come back home so soon. The soil that covered him along the banks of River Nzoia turned out not be just any dirt – it was loose earth which led to his death.
According to Sifuyo West sub-location Assistant Chief Humphrey Otieno, Oduor had left the usual harvesting place and instead moved along the river bank oblivious of the fact that the soils in the area were hanging loosely.
“In the event of trying to harvest sand in that area, the walls of the river bank crumbled and covered him killing him instantly,” the administrator said while confirming the incident.
